Agoraphobia is a disorder characterized by intense & disproportionate fear that arises in at least two of the following situations:
There is an immediate anxiety response when those of us suffering with agoraphobia are exposed to these specific situations. We often recognize the fear is disproportionate to the actual threat but this recognition doesn’t seem to prevent panic attacks, and agoraphobia is often associated with panic disorder. In response to this intense fear and anxiety, we find ourselves avoiding these situations – It’s this avoidance that maintains the anxiety response starts to make our lives very small.
